The different art programs showed her how to build layers in her paintings. She uses acrylic paints because the fast drying time allows her to continually paint layers on her landscapes. Joanne also paints scenes of nature. Joanne said “I love creating outdoor scenes. They bring a sense of peacefulness and tranquility.”

DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, November 7 at 6 p.m. for an artist’s reception welcoming Linda Gallion. \nLinda Gallion works primarily in soft pastels\, which she finds an incredibly vibrant and energizing medium for art.  As a child\, she enjoyed nature every day on the Kansas Flint Hills and often found the colors and light in the sky inspiring. Most of her work is landscapes of Maine and places she has traveled. Linda has worked in lithographs\, drawing\, pastels\, and printing\, and was mentored by Frances Hodsdon—a well know print artist and teacher. The Whitefield Artist Drawing Group hosted by Barbara Vanderbilt was also a significant part of her learning and mentoring process. \nLinda’s art has been shown at The Maine Art Gallery\, Boothbay Artist Foundation\, Pastel Painters of Cape Cod\, Washington Maine Library\, Damariscotta Grill Restaurant\, Waldoboro Theatre\, and now the Whitefield Library. DESCRIPTION:Join us September 5 at 6 P.M. for an art opening and welcome reception for Kathy Bouchard. \nKathy Bouchard is a painter and textile artist who creates memorable one-of-a-kind pieces using various media.  She produces unique artworks and practical goods from her home studio in Newcastle\, Maine.  She has a love of mysterious things and is inspired by the inherent qualities of the patterns\, colors and textures created when using fabric dyes and paints.  Kathy grew up in Auburn and attended the Portland School of Art (now the Maine College of Art & Design) and the University of Southern Maine.  Kathy has shown her work in numerous shows and is in private collections across the country.  She loves nature and animals and shares proceeds with animal welfare organizations\, land conservation groups and other nonprofits. Kathy is grateful to the Whitefield Library for its community engagement and support of local artists and is happy to have the opportunity to share her creations.  A percentage from work sold will be donated to the library.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at 6 p.m. for a reception welcoming local artist Carolee Fields Withee! \nTrue to her belief that it’s never too late to try something new\, Carolee gifted herself canvases and acrylic paints for her 80th birthday. After decades of creating intricate pictorial wall quilts and embroidered pieces\, she was ready for a new artistic outlet. A largely self-taught painter\, Carolee brings a love of detail and realism to her work\, drawing inspiration from her life experiences and the natural surroundings of her Whitefield home. \nAs Carolee creates each painting\, often featuring flowers\, birds and butterflies\, she likes to think it may find its way to someone who loves nature but can no longer garden or spend time outdoors as often as they’d like. Most of her paintings are smaller in scale and perfectly suited to cozy living spaces. \nCarolee especially enjoys working with acrylics because she can easily wipe away mistakes with a bit of water.
