DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome artist Helen Fellows. \nHelen Fellows is a painter and printmaker in Washington\, DC. and has spent almost every summer of her life in Maine. Granite\, White Pine and salt water is in her DNA and in her art. \nFellows worked in nursing for over 40 years but she never stopped making art. Traveling west with her late husband\, a talented photographer\, Fellows spent many summers sketching and painting in the outdoors. Drawn to remote\, northern landscapes\, her work in recent years has been inspired by travels to Greenland\, Newfoundland\, the Faroe Islands – and\, of course\, Maine. \nFellows studied painting and printmaking at The Corcoran School of Art\, Washington\, DC\, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts\, Deer Isle\, ME\, Anderson Ranch\, Snow Mass\, CO\, Pyramid Atlantic Print Gallery\, Hyattsville\, MD and The Torpedo Factory\, Alexandria\, VA. Her work has been shown in multiple group shows in Washington DC\, Boothbay Harbor\, Damariscotta\, and Wiscasset\, ME\, and solo in shows Washington\, DC. During her nursing career\, she designed a cover for Immunological Review\, a major scientific journal. In 2025\, she won Best in Show for ARTinMe\, a Maine statewide large format competition.

Parker is the author of three novels\, including the critically-acclaimed The Girl Who Fell and The Rattled Bones\, which explores the history and cultural erasure of Maine’s Malaga Island. Set in midcoast Maine\, Love & Lobsters is her adult debut and was immediately optioned for film.   \nShannon has a deep reverence for kindness and laughter\, wide and wild philanthropy\, and leaving a quiet\, impactful footprint. She’s traveled to 38 countries across 5 continents and is always honored to call Maine home. As an author and educator\, she holds degrees in English Literature\, Applied Linguistics\, and Educational Leadership from Saint Michael’s College\, UMass Boston\, and University of Southern Maine respectively. Most recently\, she earned her (final) Masters at Harvard University because she thought it was about time to study creative writing. She can usually be spotted kayaking or venturing to the water in her happy\, blue antique pick-up.

The intersections of the natural elements — sky\, water\, and land — inspire her to portray her emotional response to change\, whether sudden or seasonal. \nSays Sally\, “Painting inspires\, energizes\, and fulfills me. It is humbling and deeply satisfying. I hope to stir the viewer’s memory\, feeling\, curiosity\, and commitment to respecting the natural world. In this age of technology and screens\, I also know that art can help children and adults weather the stress of daily life\, especially amid our deep national and world chaos.” \nFor Sally\, art has also provided a restorative process when she was confronted with serious health issues in the last 15 years: cancer\, stroke\, and a devastating automobile accident. She has written and illustrated two books as a result of these experiences: Rad Art: A Journey Through Radiation Treatment (Atlanta\, GA: American Cancer Society\, 2012) and Daniel and His Starry Night Blanket: A Story of Illness and Sibling Love (Thomaston\, ME: Maine Authors Publishing\, 2015). When she is not painting\, Sally can be found enjoying friends\, reading\, cooking\, and walking.
