DESCRIPTION:Join us for areception honoring Barbara Vanderbilt on Friday\, February 7 at 6 pm. \nA little bit about Barbara: \nThe beauty of the trees and rock formations on the coast of Maine is something that I can never get enough of. I love their shapes and textures and the stories they tell.  I try to convey the interplay between  strength and delicacy. The contrast between the peacefulness of the moment and the rough changes that nature brings in the way of seasonal variation\, erosion and storm gives me endless material for painting and meditation!. We are such a part of nature and we need to really listen to what she tells us. Will Durant has said that “Civilization lives by geological consent…” and it so true. \nI grew up in northern New Jersey on a small lake surrounded by woods. I was not a particularly social child and spent many hours  enjoying the  peacefulness of my surroundings. When I moved to Maine in 1971 these feelings were much amplified. When I discovered pastels I found this medium very exciting and one that lent itself so readily to self expression.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a reception honoring Mike Johnson on Friday\, December 6 @ 6pm. \n\nA little about Mike: \nFor 20 years\, Mike Johnson has been drawn toward the ancient craft of functional ceramics.\nMike and his family moved to their Whitefield farmstead in 2012\, finding a place to create a\nhand built life. When away from the potter’s wheel\, you will find him volunteering with Whitefield\nFire/EMS\, teaching clay classes at Kennebec Clay Works in Augusta\, or playing guitar.  You\nare invited to a showcase of clay and heat\, form and function; a synthesis of handmade pottery\nintended for domestic use. Mike is excited to share his passion for makers and making\, and\nwelcomes you to experience the tactile warmth of stoneware. \nThe Whitefield Library is located at 1 Arlington Lane in Whitefield and can be found online at\nhttps://whitefieldlibrary.org or by following us on Facebook and Instagram.
