This policy was designed to ensure a safe and welcoming environment within the library. To ensure that everyone can enjoy their time at the Whitefield Library, appropriate behavior is expected. Disruptive and inappropriate behavior includes:
• Engaging in loud or offensive conversation or rowdy behavior
• Harassing behavior including use of personal phones. Headphones must be used at all times and the volume must be inaudible to others
• Abusive speech or action toward anyone
• Damaging library materials, equipment or facilities. Anyone damaging the library facility or its contents will be held responsible for necessary replacement or repair. If the person(s) is a minor, parents or guardians will be held responsible as provided by the law
• Individuals who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs are prohibited from using the library
• Blocking or interfering with the free movement of individuals
Entering the library signifies agreement with this policy. Enforcement of this policy will consist of the library staff or volunteer giving the individual violating this policy a verbal warning. If the individual continues to violate this policy, they will be asked to leave. Finally, if they refuse to leave, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department will be notified and the offender may be prosecuted for trespassing.
If a patron is asked to leave the library, the board may revoke, upon the Director’s recommendation, their library privileges. That particular patron must meet in person with the director to review the Behavior Policy before privileges are reinstated.
