Dear readers,
On June 22nd the library hosted their 2nd Annual Open House. The event opened to a beautiful sun-filled day, held both outdoors and indoors (of course we wanted our visitors to see the little updates we’d made to the first floor library, along with a shady place to sign up for a free library card!). Plus, tucked inside were the musical sounds of an eclectic mix of folk and blues, generously provided by the Mid-coast musicians “Well Seasoned”. In the afternoon, we celebrated the recent purchase of the former Arlington Grange with a tribute to donors and an official ribbon-cutting. A special note of thanks to all of the charitable donations made by local businesses and artisans to our Silent Auction and to the Lincoln County News and Jessica Clifford for the front page article. To all who attended, we value your support & look forward to seeing you at the library. We especially would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped make this event possible, especially Debbie Rogers, who put this event together for a second year in a row!
The new Book Club for adults had their second meeting on Wednesday, June 26th at 6pm, where we gathered to discuss our first book pick: the bestselling novel, Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, published March 4, 2014. Our next pick came from a suggested list of Best Summer Reads of 2018 and is The Last Thing I Told You, by Emily Arsenault. From the acclaimed author of The Evening Spider and The Broken Teaglass comes this psychological thriller about the murder of a psychologist in a quiet New England town and his former patient whose unreliable thread will keep readers guessing until the shocking end. Please join us! It’s not too late! Pick up your copy of this month’s Book Club choice & come to our next meeting at the Whitefield Library on Wednesday, July 24th at 6pm. Or just show up and have your voice heard, as we vote on next month’s read.
This summer, the library is collaborating with the Whitefield Summer Reading Incentive Program put together by the Whitefield School & their PTA President, Cari Jewett. Students that log their reading & meet eligibility requirements can earn some cool things (from PTA) & put their name in a drawing for a free bike (from Freemasons). So, we have the free books, just bring your students over to check them out & encourage summer reading!
If anyone is interested in joining the Events Planning Committee, please feel free to join us at our next meeting, held at the library on Thursday, July 11th at 10am. We are always looking for new volunteers & new ideas for library programs and fundraising events.
That’s all the news from the big yellow library at the top of the hill!

P.S. Watch for us at the Fourth of July parade in Whitefield at King Mills at 10am sharp!
UPCOMING NEW PROGRAMS
Family Game Night is scheduled for the second Wednesday night of the month, starting on July 10th at 6-7pm. Come join us for some mid-week fun, as we learn new games or play some good old standards. Parents bring your kids of any age, pre-schooler to teen, as you join them in a fun night out. We will have a drawing at the end of the night and someone will win a new game to take home! Knitting & Needles Circle is scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month, starting on July 17th at 10:30am. The idea behind this circle is to have a place to meet others interested in the same or similar crafts and have a dedicated time for yourself to work on your independent project while relaxing at the library. Perhaps you might even swap ideas or become interested in a new craft!
