Volunteering at the Whitefield Community Library

Are you looking for a fun and rewarding way to give back to your community by volunteering? Are you new to the area and looking for a way to meet new people? If so, then please consider becoming a volunteer for The Whitefield Community Library! The volunteers are the vital heartbeat of the library and there are so many advantages to become a volunteer. Not only is it great for the library, it can be personally rewarding as well.

Being a volunteer at the circulation desk is a wonderful way to meet and greet people in the community by seeing old friends and making new. Volunteering connects you to others and can increase your own social and relationship skills. A perfect time to talk to the patrons about their choice of novels and preferred authors is while checking books in or out. It’s about making a personal connection with other readers and assisting them in their choice of literature.

There are definitely some perks to being a volunteer as you have access to books that are new releases or old favorites. There are some hidden gems among the stacks at The Whitefield Community Library and you can find anything from classic literature to the hottest new releases.

Speaking of new releases, the volunteers at the library can certainly recommend a great read! If you are looking for a particular novel, author, or genre just ask one of the volunteers at the circulation desk and they can suggest a new release or a favorite they have read themselves. One of the first things you see when entering the library is the new release shelf and this is a very popular area, especially if you happen to be waiting for a certain new author or a hot new novel to hit that shelf!

On Friday mornings at 10:30 the library is filled with young children happily playing and listening to the stories read by one of the volunteers, Emma Nelson. The story on one particular Friday was all about fairies and gnomes and was followed by a simple craft session of making fairy wands. There were some spectacular and creative wands made and the children thoroughly enjoyed it! There happens to be a great need for story time volunteer readers so, if you are interested in reading to the children please contact Julie Cowles at the number listed below.

Besides working on the Circulation desk, there are many other areas at The Whitefield Community Library that need volunteer help for housekeeping, bake sale items, upstairs renovations, construction, and landscaping. Fill out our Volunteer Application or contact our volunteer coordinator, Julie Cowles, with a text or a call at (719) 233-4488 or her email at volunteer-coordinator@whitefieldlibrary.org. As you can see all you need are your skills, interest, and a bit of time and we can find a place for you! I believe this quote from an unknown author fits well here: “find your passion, your interest, and join others in volunteering to do something you love!”
