The Whitefield Library and Community Center is pleased to announce that we have received our occupancy permit and are putting the final pieces in place for an opening of the library on Friday, January 14, 2022! We have cataloged over 5,000 books for readers of all ages and our Online Patron Access Catalog (otherwise known as OPAC) is ready to use! We have already signed up over 80 patrons with our new Get a Library Card application. We have created a cozy and well organized space for you to visit and explore. We are so excited to have you see this true labor of love for our community.
We still have more work to do upstairs to complete renovations on our community center and will keep you updated on our progress and how you might help us complete the space for the overall vision of a beautiful and safe environment for all manner of community activities.
Right now…it’s all about THE LIBRARY!!!
Calling all volunteers! Training to begin in the next few weeks!! If you’re interested in learning to help run our library, please contact us and sign up for training today!!! Over the next few weeks, volunteers will be trained in the computer system and become familiarized with our inventory so that they will be well equipped to serve our patrons. If you would like to become a volunteer, please email the Office or use our Contact Form and let us know. To become a patron, please visit our website at whitefieldlibrary.org to sign up and get your very own laminated library card! It’s easy!!! Be ready to take out books from our impressive collection of fiction and non-fiction when the library opens in early January.
Because of the ongoing COVID pandemic, we’re not planning a big Gala Opening on January 14th. It’s going to be a “soft” opening. We’ll open our doors and people can come in, look around, and take out books, provided they’re wearing a mask, but we’re not planning a Big Event on that date. We are planning on having a Grand Opening later in the year. Stay tuned for exact date of that event and accompanying activities. It’s sure to be a celebration indeed. Many in our community have worked tirelessly in various capacities – visioning, planning, grant writing, architectural/ bricks and mortar movers and shakers, over the past few years to get us this far with renovations. Others have spent countless hours combing through book donations, collecting books gifted from local educational institutions, coordinating the installation of internet and a computer system to keep track of our collection, cataloging, labeling and shelving. Now we have a real live library!
